Privacy Policy

Dovetail & Dust is a static content site. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your data, and this page explains exactly what happens when you visit. Last updated July 18, 2026.

The short version

We use anonymous analytics to understand which pages are useful, our affiliate partners may set a cookie when you click a product link, and we run a contact form that emails your message to us. That's essentially it. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

What we collect

  • Usage data (analytics).Aggregate, non-identifying information about how the site is used — pages viewed, approximate region, device and browser type, and how you arrived. This is collected through Google Analytics 4 and is configured to be anonymous; we do not use it to identify you personally.
  • Contact form data.If you message us, we receive the name, email address, and message text you submit — and nothing more.

We do not run user accounts, we do not ask you to log in, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information.

Cookies and analytics

Google Analytics 4 sets cookies to measure site usage in aggregate. These help us see which guides people actually read so we can improve them; they are not used to build an advertising profile of you on this site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use a browser extension to opt out of Google Analytics, and the site will keep working normally.

Affiliate cookies

When you click an outbound affiliate link — for example, a link to a product on Amazon — the retailer may set its own cookie so it can credit a resulting purchase to us. That cookie is set by the retailer under the retailer's privacy policy, not ours, and it is how the affiliate program described in our affiliate disclosureworks. We do not receive your payment details, and the retailer's terms govern any purchase.

The contact form

Our contact form sends the name, email, and message you provide to our own inbox using Microsoft Graph (Microsoft/Azure email infrastructure). We use that information only to read and reply to you and, where relevant, to make a correction you have flagged. We do not add you to a marketing list and we do not sell or share your message. The form also uses a hidden honeypot field and a timing check to block automated spam; these do not track you.

Third parties we rely on

To run the site we use a small number of well-known service providers, each under its own privacy policy:

  • Google— Google Analytics 4, for anonymous usage measurement.
  • Amazon(and other affiliate retailers) — when you click an outbound product link, for affiliate tracking and the eventual purchase.
  • Microsoft / Azure— Microsoft Graph, which delivers contact-form messages to our inbox.

These providers process data on their own infrastructure according to their own policies. We encourage you to review Google's, Amazon's, and Microsoft's privacy policies for the full detail of how they handle data.

We do not sell your data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for money or for their own marketing. The only data-sharing that happens is the operational use described above — the service providers that make the site function.

Children's privacy

Dovetail & Dust is a woodworking-tool site intended for a general adult audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, email us and we will delete it.

Your choices

You can decline or clear cookies in your browser, opt out of Google Analytics, and simply choose not to use the contact form. If you have used the form and would like us to delete the message you sent, email us and we will remove it from our inbox.
