Editorial Policy
How we keep the site accurate and honest
Dovetail & Dust is only useful if you can trust what's on the page. This policy sets out how we handle accuracy, corrections, updates, and our independence from the brands we cover. It works hand in hand with our methodology.
Our accuracy commitment
Every factual claim on this site is meant to trace back to a real source — a manufacturer specification, a product manual, or aggregated owner reviews. We do not invent numbers, estimate specs from memory, or repeat a figure we cannot stand behind. Where a data point genuinely is not available, we say so instead of filling the gap with a guess. Our on-page scores are editorial judgments from that documented research, not lab measurements, and the methodology page explains exactly how they are formed.
Corrections
We get things wrong sometimes, and when we do we want to fix it quickly and visibly. If you spot a factual error — a misread spec, a wrong capacity, an out-of-date claim — email us at info@dovetailanddust.com. We aim to review and correct confirmed factual errors within about 48 hours. Substantive corrections are made on the page itself, and we update the page's modified date so you can see it has been revised.
Update cadence
Tools, specs, and especially prices move, so our content is maintained on a rolling schedule rather than published once and forgotten.
- Prices are live. The prices you see are pulled continuously from the retailer and shown with an "as of" date. If a fresh price is not available, we show no price at all rather than a stale one — an old number simply disappears instead of misleading you.
- Specs and picks are reviewed on a rolling 90-day cycle. We revisit roundups and guides at least every quarter to catch discontinued models, revised specs, and better new options, and we re-rank when the evidence changes.
- Reader reports jump the queue.A flagged error doesn't wait for the next scheduled review; we act on it as soon as we can confirm it.
Sourcing standards
Our default source of truth is the manufacturer's own published material: the spec sheet, the manual, and the official product listing. On top of that we read owner reviews at volume to understand real-world durability and quirks. When a claim rests on a specific document, we point to it. We prefer primary sources over second-hand summaries, and we would rather leave a question open than answer it from an unverifiable source.
Independence from manufacturers
We are an independent publisher. No manufacturer, brand, or retailer has any say over our rankings, our scores, or which tools we recommend. We do not accept sponsored placements, paid rankings, or "featured" slots, and we do not let a brand review or approve our coverage before it goes live. If a relationship ever existed that could color our judgment, we would disclose it plainly.
Commission never changes a ranking
Some of our links earn us a commission when you buy, at no extra cost to you. That commission has no influence on how anything is ranked. When the cheaper tool is the better buy, we say so — even when it earns us less. The order of our picks is decided by the rubric in our methodology, full stop.
